Full-Time Participation and Development Officer

Job Description

Hockey Tasmania seeks applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Participation & Development Officer. The position is full-time (5 days per week) and primarily based in the Hobart office, with expectations of some travel to all regions. The person in the role will need to be able to have some flexibility with the required hours and days.

This position is primarily responsible for the strategic coordination and delivery of state-wide participation and development programs in Tasmania, working directly with schools, clubs, and other hockey-related associations and organisations, and providing high-level administrative support and advice to all our stakeholders.

Principle Duties:
• Coordinate and deliver existing junior participation and development programs within Tasmania
• Lead the development of new strategies and participation programs
• Provide administrative support to key stakeholders (clubs, committees, CEO and HT staff, schools, associations etc.) to help facilitate the delivery of participation and development programs
• Organise and coordinate key volunteers to help deliver programs in all regions, including umpires and coaches.
• Plan and budget for following year programs
• Coordinate funding opportunities and grants
• Understand the Hockey Australia Participation Plan
• Understand the Safe Hockey framework
• Collect and analyse data and statistics from multiple and various sources
• Coordinate and oversee key senior development programs such as the Tassie Tigers Academy.

The position requires a high level of skills in organising and coordinating volunteers and programs, grant and funding applications, data collection and analysis, and strategic thinking.

The Participation Officer would need to demonstrate skills including:

Essential Skills
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work in a small team environment with the capacity to manage workload while supervising other staff and volunteers as required
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications
• Proven ability to work independently within a small team
• Basic understanding of statistics analysis and data collection
• Experience with, or knowledge of, participation strategy development and implementation
• Experience developing and managing budgets
• Working With Vulnerable People clearance

• Experience dealing with schools
• An understanding of the sport of hockey
• An understanding of sports administration and program development and delivery
• Professional experience or qualifications in comparable participation program development, delivery, or strategy
• A desire to learn best-practice and modern strategy for sports participation in Australia, and stay in tune with developments across government or other sporting associations
• Experience coaching hockey (individual or group) at any level
