Part-Time Paid coaching roles available

South Berkshire Hockey Club – Posted by southberkshirehockeyclub Wokingham, England, United Kingdom

Job Description

South Berkshire Hockey Club is one of the fastest growing hockey clubs in the area, now catering to over 400 total members. Located at Cantley Park, Wokingham, South Berks runs 7 Men’s and 5 Ladies’ teams alongside comprehensive junior and master’s hockey programmes to provide hockey for every age and ability.

We are currently recruiting coaches to work with our Men’s 3s and Ladies 3s for the coming season. Both teams are positioned within the club as the first stepping-stone out of the development teams for junior players into performance adult hockey alongside an established adult contingent. As such season aims are equal parts player development and playing good hockey, supporting the teams above as required. Experience coaching with both junior and senior players is therefore desirable for these roles. Compensation is negotiable based upon experience and availability for Saturday games. Applicants must be available to coach one evening a week. Please see below for information on the individual teams.

We are also hiring volunteers looking to gain coaching experience to work with our men’s 4s and 6s for the coming year. This would be a great opportunity for a player to begin their coaching journey with an experienced and tight-knit set of squads. In return the club is willing to assist financially with coaching course costs and mentoring from senior coaches throughout the season, with consideration for progression in future seasons.

Men’s 3s – South Central Men’s Division 4 North

After a new developmental pathway structure was implemented within the Men’s section for the 21/22 season, an experienced group of adult hockey players took in a selection of juniors with the aim of developing players to move up into the performance teams above. A successful season followed, with the team challenging for promotion up until the final weeks of the season and a total of three juniors ready and promoted to the 2s team. More of the same is hoped for the 22/23 season with a new batch of junior players ready to come in.

Ladies’ 3s – South Central Women’s Division 3 North

The Ladies 3s convincingly won their league last season with a clear gap to second place, promoting them to share a league with the Ladies 2s in the coming season. The aim of this year is therefore to consolidate in the league above, playing high quality hockey and providing support to the Ladies 2s by developing talented players ready to progress. An incoming coach can expect to find an experienced and enthusiastic set of ladies excited to take on the new challenge with some promising young players.

Men’s 4s & 6s

The Men’s 4s & 6s are considered social teams, catering to players looking to enjoy their hockey without the expectations of training every week or playing every game. Teams train together and squads are picked from the pool of players each week based on availability. Regardless, both teams won their respective leagues last season and expect to be competitive again in the coming year, particularly the 4th team who hope to challenge for promotion. A strong mix of experienced and new players would be a great opportunity for anyone new to coaching to try their hand.
