About us:

East London Hockey Club is a sociable and welcoming club operating 8 men’s and 9 ladies’ teams, and a growing youth section, based in the London Boroughs of Newham and Tower Hamlets.

The Men’s 1st team play in the London Premier League, and the Men’s 2nd team play in London Division 2N.  Both teams train and play the majority of their home games at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre.  The successful candidates will be expected to work together, with the 1st team coach having overall responsibility for the men’s performance set-up, with the objective of narrowing the gap between the two sides and building towards promotion to National League over the next few years.

About you:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious coach with a positive coaching mentality and experience of a performance hockey environment.  Whilst ideally this would be experience coaching at Regional Premier or Division 1, we are open to candidates with significant playing experience at an early stage of their coaching career.

The club has a strong track record of supporting the development of internal and external coaches; a number of those coaches having moved on to National League sides after coaching the men’s and/or ladies 1st teams.

A player-coaching role would also be considered for the right candidate.


  • Planning and delivering a pre-season timetable (including fitness, pitch sessions, and matches) suitable for a performance hockey environment.
  • Planning and delivering engaging training sessions suitable for a performance on a weekly or twice weekly (TBC) basis throughout the outdoor season.
  • Leading the selection for the men’s performance teams with assistance, as appropriate, from the relevant captain and other performance coach.
  • Managing/coaching the team on Saturday match days including the delivery of effective tactics.
  • Monitor performance and provide feedback to players on an individual and group basis.
  • Optional – the opportunity to co-ordinate with other coaches within the club to assist their development and seek to implement consistency of selection, training sessions and team tactics.

Experience and Approach

  • Ideally, you will have a UK Level 2 coaching Qualification, or be working towards this qualification.
  • You must be eligible to work in the UK and hold a valid UK/EU passport or valid work permit and speak a good standard of English.
  • Enthusiasm for developing existing youth and senior players and help attract new players to improve the team.


Competitive hourly rate to be discussed depending on level of qualification and previous experience.  You would be contracted to the club on a self-employed basis.
