Umpire Development Officer – Job Description

This job description is meant as a general outline of the roles and responsibilities expected to be carried out on a day to day basis however we would be looking for the right candidate to evolve and develop the role as required to meet the clubs ongoing and growing requirements.

This role would see you being in charge of the umpiring side of the club and will require for you to work hand in hand with the senior management team and key lead individuals such as captains, coaches and convenors.

Package:

The package will include a basic monthly salary of up to £250 per month depending on experience and commitment levels.

Hours:

We would expect this role to take around 30 hours per month with no set hours however we would expect the right candidate to work as required to drive forward the club with line management via the President.

Although no set hours we would expect full availability on a weekend for matches and midweek for coaching / mentoring sessions.

Club Need:

Over the past few years the club has put in place a rolling development plan with it focused on key areas each year. Past key areas have included management structure, youth / school community programme, athlete / player development, Gents section development.

Most recently our Ladies section has been a key focus area, which in turn has identified the need to grow our own umpire pipeline as our ladies section develops into a National League club and our ladies, gents and youth sections grow in size.

Over the past few years we have carried out a great amount of work on umpire development via our very hard working volunteers and have a large percentage of umpires within our club however as we grow as a club and look to develop international quality umpires alongside players and coaches we feel now is the right time to invest further for the future of our umpiring section.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Review quantity and quality of existing umpires to set a starting point
• Identify 3-year umpire development programme
• Agree short, medium and long-term targets for percentage of each level of umpire
• Promote umpiring equally alongside playing and coaching
• Identify existing umpires and mentor to be able to do national league level matches within one year
• Upskill all existing badged umpires to be capable of umpiring at some level and agree individual development programmes.
• Focus on all senior and youth performance squads being badged.
• Develop a programme for all remaining members
• Sell umpiring as an alternative to playing / coaching.
• Set up an umpire reward scheme to encourage members to umpire
• Set up weekly umpire rota so more do less while allowing our key umpires to develop further
• Connect with the various elements of our district, governing body, umpiring associations etc, maintaining working relationships and open communication
• Develop and manage the umpire infrastructure
• Promote Uddingston HC 4Respect campaign to all members, supporters, spectators and visitors
• Do all possible to recruit, recognise, reward and retain those who volunteer for the club
• Develop links with key local partners to ensure our club is positioned correctly for its members
• Liaise with Local Authority Sports Development / Active Schools
• Recruit umpires, recommend umpires to District / national squads

Umpire Development Officer – KPI’s

• Increase in quality and quantity of umpires across all levels and sections year on year
• Investigate and apply for grant funding to support umpire development programme
• Management of agreed budgets and maximising these budgets
• Increase in quality and quality of umpires with view of all members being graded and more higher grade male and female umpires within club.
• Increase youth umpire numbers and selection for district and national touraments
• Provide a fun, performance focused, professional environment for all levels
• Individual team targets at senior and youth levels
• Drive club brand to be best in sector
