Hockey Australia is seeking to recruit 2 National Women’s Assistant Coaches based in Perth to work within the National Women’s HP program.

The position of National Assistant Coach of the Australian Women’s hockey team is a prestigious and highly valued position within international hockey.

Hockey Australia seeks to appoint an Assistant Coach to work within the High Performance unit under the direction of the National Women’s Head Coach, to assist with the coordination and implementation of the national senior women’s program.

Role Purpose

As part of the National Women’s Coaching staff you will be responsible for assisting with developing all aspects of the technical and performance standards of the National Senior team the ‘Hockeyroos’, with the clear goal being to achieve medal success at the 2020 Olympic Games.

In addition, you will work under the direction and in collaboration with the Head Coach to influence the elite National network and establish a ‘World Best’ program, which maximises the input and investment of all stakeholders.

An integral part of your role will be to assist building an increased capacity to deliver greater performance’s in athletes and staff that enhances sustained success into the future.

Position reports to:     Head Coach – Women’s High Performance Program

Internal Relationships:     HA High Performance Director; HA Coaches, Manager HP Unit, Manager Performance & Planning, Manager PA & HP Systems, HA Support Services Staff, HA HP Staff, Athletes, Administrators

External Relationships:     State Institute Coaches, State Coaches, WA Club Coaches, SIS/SAS Support Services Staff, Consultant Medical Providers

Location:     Perth, Western Australia

Qualifications  

• HA Advanced level coaching qualification and/or license as defined National Accreditation System
• National Police Clearance / Western Australian Working with Children’s Check
• First Aid & CPR certificate

Knowledge

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of the strategies and tactics to deliver results in hockey at benchmark events.
• Contemporary knowledge of coaching science and practice;
• Thorough understanding of athlete preparation pathway requirements for a national Hockey program.
• Understanding of appropriate sports science services and resources that can be applied to deliver peak performance.
• Knowledge and understanding of the national and international factors that influence hockey and the Australian sport system.

• Coaching, developing, motivating and empowering others;
• Effective communication to engage, consult, liaise and influence management, colleagues, and athletes;
• Demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions for performance outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with stakeholders and partners
• Demonstrated capability to plan, coordinate and drive the implementation of an athlete performance enhancement plan;
• Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team as well as work autonomously;
• Hold others accountable for actions linked to athlete performance and development plans

Experience

• Demonstrated coaching experience with international and /or National teams;
• Demonstrated capability within a high performance support team to collectively contribute to the high performance and the development of athletes;
• Demonstrated ability to assist with the development of an international standard training program to meet the needs of elite athletes
• Demonstrated capacity to assist with the execution of a long term training and competition plan that guides the development of elite
• Demonstrated ability to identify, attract and retain talented athletes.
• Provide reference to a respected reputation in the sport of hockey, domestically and/or internationally.
