Job Description

Due to a change in working conditions for our previous head coach, Newman Knights is seeking an experienced coach and/or player coach required for top Men’s side (Promotion 1) which is a club based in Churchlands, Perth Western Australia. The Club has over 280 members comprising 12 senior teams (7 men’s and 5 women’s) and 7 junior teams playing games once a week in the HWA Competition, plus a Hookin2hockey program for children aged from 5 to 9. Players in the top sides are involved in coaching junior teams and there is a strong sense of community within the club.

The coach/player coach must be willing to commit from May 2019 for the remainder of the Perth Winter season (mid-September) with the possibility of extending into 2020. The club will aim to secure a top four finish, which will secure a position in the new Premier 2 competition in 2020, and also contend in the finals. During that time the candidate must be keen to develop, encourage and challenge both existing players and also juniors advancing into senior hockey.

The development of the playing group and acknowledgement of the club culture will be key to this role and the coach will be expected to develop, deliver and manage a programme to optimise performance both in terms of preparation and playing. They will need to demonstrate an appreciation of the core values of the club including respect, discipline, enjoyment and participation.

Requirements for the role:

• Coaching accreditation.
• For player coach applicants – Playing experience at a premier/promotion grade level

• Able to plan and deliver two training sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings with clear direction of how you want the team to play
• Implement a clear game plan/playing style
• Attend Promotion 1 and 2 games played over the weekends from Friday to Sunday
• Have great communication skills and create a good team spirit
• Show passion, drive and ambition to lead the team to success

An attractive remuneration package can be offered, particularly for coaching the side to its goal of a top 4 finish.
