Oakham is justifiably proud of its sporting tradition. The School’s reputation for producing competitive teams and individuals across a range of sports and at a wide range of abilities is second to none. We are rightly proud of the steady stream of Old Oakhamians who continue to garner success at national and international level but are equally proud of a sports programme which offers competitive and recreational opportunities for all our pupils. The Sports Department is made up of 14 full time members of staff, 6 graduate sports fellows and around 25 visiting sports coaches.

The Graduate Programme
The graduate programme has been running here at Oakham for ten years and has been hugely successful not only in attracting high quality graduates into exciting and challenging positions but also in spring boarding individuals into the next step of their careers. Currently we employ specialists in rugby, lacrosse, hockey, athletics and netball. We are looking to expend this into cricket as well as a lead video analyst position.
All graduates are expected to play a specific role within their own area of expertise. This will involve delivery of coaching sessions, team management, mentoring individuals as well as providing one on one coaching. In addition to this they will take roles with teams and in sports throughout the school year.
Under the line management of the Director of Sport, fellows will also assist in the management of key areas of the department’s busy programme and will gain valuable experience in administration, marketing and communications.
There are opportunities for Graduates to assist in PE and Sport Science lessons, and it is
encouraged that all graduates actively seek to develop their coaching through CPD.
Graduate Fellows have been successful in securing further employment or training after leaving
Oakham. The majority of graduates have followed a teaching career path but others are working for EIS, studying masters degrees or equally have been successful working in non-related fields. Above all, our graduates have a fantastic time living and working in a supportive and rewarding environment, gaining great experience, working really hard in a seven day a week boarding school –and having great fun.
Remuneration will be £11,000 divided into 10 or 12 month payments.
Accommodation (including all bills) is included as is access to three meals a day free of charge.
All fellows will be put through CPD including a level 2 UKCC course as well as being provided with an experienced coaching mentor.
