Community Division 1 Division 2 Players, South West United HC / QUT (SQH), Brisbane Women’s Hockey
In 2019 and 2020, a new entity will enter one of Australia’s highest levels of women’s club hockey; The Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association’s (BWHA) Division 1 and 2 competitions. This new entity is called SQH and is the result of a joint venture between SWUHC (South West United Hockey Club) and QUT (Queensland University of Technology Hockey Club Inc). The competitions that SQH are entering consist of 10 or more teams, and are played across Greater Brisbane, Queensland’s capital city. As for SQH, plenty of time and energy has gone into creating a model which has athlete development and team performance at its heart. This venture is not only exciting for both clubs; it is also an exciting opportunity for athletes looking for a new challenge. Whether you are relocating to sunny Brisbane from interstate, moving to Brisbane for university or moving to Brisbane to explore new career opportunities, maybe you’re one of the thousands of travelers traveling from overseas, or maybe you’re simply looking for an opportunity to advance your hockey; SQH is welcoming any athletes wanting to develop themselves within a premier hockey environment.
With 2019 being SQH’s first year in operation, establishing ourselves as genuine competitors is a high priority. Regular pre-season training will commence mid January. SQH trains at the State Hockey Centre, Lytton Road Colmslie, Brisbane. Our season runs from early March to late September. Training will be twice per week plus games. Between these 2 training nights there’ll be weekly stick work, fitness, whiteboard and / or video sessions. Our Division 1 and 2 athletes will be expected to attend the majority of these sessions. SQH does not pay athletes to play however we acknowledge that some athletes may require support in one way or another. SQH won’t make any promises, but depending upon what assistance is required, we may be in a position to do so. Under certain circumstances players may be eligible for student discounts or representative discounts. If any negotiations are entered into on player assistance, they will be done so confidentially, and in accordance with club policies.
